Abstract. The aim of the conducted studies was to describe
the intensity of biochemical changes and microbiological status of
soils in mixed stands with various site index on fresh broadleaved
forest and mixed fresh broadleaved forest and to set the possibilities
of utilization of the research on biochemical activity in calculation
the soil fertility indicator and in the detailed diagnostics of forest
sites condition.
Chemical and biological parameters those defining the fertility of
soils were discordant with sites quality; their higher values were
affirmed in mixed fresh broadleaved forest than in fresh broadleaved
forest.
The marked relationship had the place between stands site index and the
chemical and biological parameters of soils independently from the
forest site type. Soils under the stands of the index site I both in
fresh and in mixed fresh broadleaved forest were characterized with
better chemical proprieties and higher biological activity than soils
under stands of the index site II.
Simultaneously, higher values of the biological soil fertility
indicator (F) in stands of the I than the II site index were affirmed,
showing the reliability of this coefficient in the typological
diagnostics of more fertile forest sites.
Key words: soil chemistry, soil biological activity, mixed fresh broadleaved forest, fresh broadleaved forest, site index, soil fertility indicator.
